Superb Dragonfly
Gossamer wings captured in the gentle beiges of the distinctive Solnhofen limestone, this superb dragonfly is a beautiful contrast of the ethereal in stone. Such fragile specimens are rarely preserved in the fossil record due to the extraordinary conditions required for fossilization. Skillfully prepared in the delicate matrix, with a wingspan of nearly seven inches, a striking naturally occurring dendrite of grey crosses the dragonfly adding to the aesthetic value. Enhanced on a custom ebony base, the airy, otherworldly nature of the dragonfly is a lovely focal point.
