Shark
A spectacular fossil shark posed as though swimming through the warm cream matrix. The specimen boasts a fine, well-defined outline, highlighted by the preserved spine that stretches the length of the body. This exceptional specimen is rarely found in Lebanon. Handsomely displayed on a custom ebony base, this shark will captivate the imagination of generations to come.
The abundant Cretaceous fossil beds of Lebanon are second only to the famed Green River formation in producing a fine diversity of fossil fish. The cartilaginous skeleton of the shark makes it particularly rare in the fossil record. The look and shape of Cretaceous sharks is similar to modern sharks. Sharks survived the mass extinction at the end of the late Cretaceous period.
