Diamond-shaped Stingray
Tones of rust emerge against the warm beige matrix to reveal the distinctive diamond-shaped body of a ray gliding across the ancient ocean floor. This specimen is a fine example of a typical stingray from the Cretaceous limestones of Lebanon.
Lebanon, has long been famous for its rich, diverse fossil associations with references by Greek historians and during the crusades. However, geopolitical circumstances leave much to explore.
Notable for its large size and perfect preservation on the original matrix, this ray seems to slip by a trio of small fish and a shrimp. The largest fish is nestled against the ray’s head, as if hitching a ride. Beautifully displayed on a custom ebony base, this specimen is a whimsical, yet classic example, perfect for any collection.
