Amethyst was prized by ancient cultures like the Egyptians, Etruscans and Romans for its beauty and healing powers. Sought after due to its lavish rich color and durability, amethyst specimens are mined from the mountains by tunneling into solid basalt rock and carefully extracting each specimen. Only a small percentage survive intact with good quality color and crystal structure.
