Iron Meteorite
First reported in 1576, the Campo del Cielo fall produced many of the largest and most exciting meteorites anywhere in the world. This remarkable iron meteorite, notable in size and weight, captures the imagination with every crevice, as though vividly telling its story of creation, memorializing the lava-like flow of molten iron. A stargazer’s dream, the amazing contours of the meteorite are emphasized as the custom mirrored base illuminates the deepest craters. A piece of outer space that inspires the same sense of wonder and drive to explore as gazing at the night sky.
Iron meteorites originated from the molten iron core of what was briefly a planet during the formation of the solar system.
The planetoid broke apart approximately 4.5 billion years ago into asteroids. Iron meteorites consist mainly of iron-nickel alloy, also referred to as meteoric iron. These rare and fascinating meteorites, the cores of ancient planets, were the earliest form of usable iron for humans.
